Hi! It’s already October, which means it’s another time for us to update you one what’s SSI has been up to!

Progress/updates on training team:

We only had one lesson this month because of the October break, a school conference, and a school trip:(

During the previous lessons, we felt that basic classroom settings and supplies, such as classroom rules and folders, were needed because the kids are quite young and have a hard time keeping things organized. So during this one lesson, we didn’t teach any music. Instead, we focused on setting classroom rules. These included basic rules like listening to the teacher but also included rules like finding their own instruments and unpacking them as soon as they go into the classroom.

Then, we attempted to create a more friendly and welcoming atmosphere through icebreakers, such as red light green light. We also tried to get to know each other more so that teachers and students can get closer on a more personal level, which is extremely important for high quality lessons in the future. Fortunately, this lesson helped the quiet and reserved kids to get more comfortable and talkative around the teachers. At the same time, it also helped the loud and playful kids to be more disciplined.

Progress/updates on marketing team:

The fundraising teams held their fundraiser in the haunted house led by HS STUCO last Friday (October 29th). There were two fundraising teams; one was guessing the number of marshmallows and another had a mystery box with different prizes in it.

From our fundraisers, we made a total profit of 86RMB. It is not a small amount of money, but it was still very little, considering all the work that had to be done. Although the fundraiser ideas were creative and fun, we will try to improve on planning fundraisers with lower costs and higher profit. We will also try to advertise them well before and during the actual fundraiser, as we believe that the lack of advertisement also factored into the low profit. In addition, some supplies were not ready at the actual fundraiser, so next time there should be better preparation and dedication.

As for our press and blog team, many were getting used the system of writing and submitting work on time. Nonetheless, they were all excited to contribute in promoting this cause in diverse ways.

Thank you for checking on SSI again and hope you come back next time as well!
