Hi everyone! It’s been a while since our last blog post, and I wanted to start off with little violin joke to get back into the mood (prepare yourselves for a lame dad joke).

What do you call a cow that plays the violin?

Moozart!

Progress/Update on training team:

We’re so excited that we have been able to have 3 in person lessons so far, and with a group of new kids. This time, we had 17 kids, which is the largest group yet! A few weeks ago, we brought one of each instrument (violin, viola, cello) to the classroom and demonstrated the differences of each. We split the kids into three group that rotated between the instruments in a gallery walk activity, the teachers played a short tune, and some students go to have a try as well. The students spent time to get used to the instruments and based on their experience they filled out a survey selecting their strings preference.

We have had 4 lessons of specialized teaching, where kids get to learn the instrument they chose. In these classes, there 2 kids per teacher, with each student using their own instrument, which allowed many questions and more in-depth explanations to take place. They were taught some basics, such as how to hold their instrument as well as how to play opens string and scales. We felt that everyone was very eager to learn, which in turn motivated the teachers. We had a good distributions of kids playing each instrument this year, and as the kids continue to improve, we hope to start organizing some performance opportunities for them!

Progress/Updates on marketing team:

We were fortunate to have held many fundraisers this year. Firstly, we had a calendar sale in collaboration with the Housebuilding Club back in January. Then, we had a fidget toy sale during the movie night in Febuary.

Lastly, we recently participated in the Winter Bazzar this month by selling toys. Our total profit for these fundraisers was 3,855RMB, which now brings our club funds to over 10,000RMB! Thank you to all the members who participated in these fundraisers. ☺

With all the money we raised, we will be able to buy more instruments for the kids, and SSI will contribute 50% of the money to do so.

That’s it for this post, please stay tuned for all the great SSI has coming up, and a reminder to check out the fundraiser page for any instrument or fund donations. Thank you, and see you next time!
