How did you all spend November of 2020?

We will give you guys a little peek into what SSI has been up to this November!

First of all, we recruited new supervisors to help us continue our club in the midst of the pandemic. We have Ms.Earley as our online supervisor and Ms. Mei as well as Mr.Van as our offline supervisors. Ms.Earley assists us with organization while Ms.Mei and Mr.Van helps us by supervising us during the lessons. We are really grateful to receive supports from these wonderful teachers!

Now, let me tell you how we’ve been teaching our students at the aftercare center.

Continuing on from our lessons from last school year, we taught the students basic skills and knowledge of music to build a solid foundation. This includes pizzicato, bowing, C major scale, and music theory. We are especially focusing on teaching them how to read notes and rhythms so that they can use repertoires to play their instruments later on. We believe that by taking time and making sure that the students have mastered these skills, they can learn the the advanced skills more easily and improve quicker.

In fact, the improvement has already taken place. When Sebeen, the photographer, joined in on our lessons, she was impressed by “the boy who learned cello…because he was really hardworking, and his skills improved really fast."

But the students aren’t the only ones benefitting from these lessons. Stella, one of the violin teachers says, "I think SSI is a really good chance because while teaching students, I also get to learn from them and experience different cultures.”

We are happy that we can resume our lessons despite the pandemic and excited to continue on, but we also believe that there are rooms for improvement. Members of the club suggest to "have a larger space for students,” “spend more time with students to get closer with them,” and “be more organized.”

We are working hard to improve these and provide the best lessons for the students, so please stay updated and keep an eye on how our club progresses!
